Promoting Emotional Health in Children, Families & Adults

Welcome to the Practice

Hello, I am Dr Hugh Milburn.  My aim is to promote your psychological health and I am committed to providing the highest level of service. I believe that each client is unique and this informs my approach, whether it is brief therapy or longer term. I hope you find the information you need here, but if not, get in touch with the practice and I will try to answer any questions you have.

Service

Due to COVID-19 I am offering online psychotherapy through Skype, Facetime, WhatApp and phone sessions. Please contact me to discuss how this works.

Milburn Psychology Practice is a psychology and psychotherapy service offering a range of expertise in psychological assessments and therapies to promote emotional health in children, adolescents, families, adults and organisations.

I seek to bring about symptom relief and emotional development by helping the child or adult to make sense of their experiences and feelings.

Approach

I do this by providing a consistent and safe environment in my consulting room where the child or adult can feel secure to explore their thoughts and feelings relating to aspects of life they might be struggling to understand.

It is hoped that through developing a thoughtful therapeutic relationship and by being understood, they will find new and healthier ways of managing their feelings and difficulties.

I use my psychological understanding of child development to explore with the child, through play material, and through talking with adults, what might be causing their emotional distress.

The clinical view of the practice is that well-being is not just about symptom relief: it’s about addressing underlying causes of problems and assist you or the family to create a strong psychological foundation for on-going development.

The practice offers evidenced-based psychological models including psychodynamic, attachment, cognitive behaviour psychotherapy, systemic psychotherapy, and play therapy.

Issues that I work with include

  • Depression
  • Low self-esteem
  • Attachment difficulties
  • Difficulties in relationship with peers
  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Behaviour and conduct disorders
  • Trauma
  • Developmental trauma (including issues relating to adoption)
